Early Bird Animal Licensing Rates Now Available to Ponoka Residents

(November 1, 2021 – Ponoka, Alberta) – Pet owners in Ponoka can now take advantage of early bird discounted
rates for animal licences. All dogs and cats six months of age and older must be licensed annually in the Town of Ponoka, as per the
Town’s Animal Control Bylaw #424-19.

An animal licence is your pet’s ticket home and helps ensure they can more easily be returned home safely by
the Town’s animal control contractor, Old MacDonald Kennels. Licensing also saves pet owners added cost if
your animal accidentally escapes your property, which can result in a fine for failing to license your cat or dog.

Early Bird Rates
Residents can now access the early bird rate by renewing their dog licences for the 2022 year between October
1 and December 31. The early bird rate also applies to:

  • New Ponoka residents who own a dog and/or cat as of October 1, 2021; and
  • First time animal owners of a dog and/or cat as of October 1, 2021.

The early bird rates are $15 annually for spayed or neutered animals or $30 for unaltered animals.
Documented proof of spay or neuter is required to qualify for the discounted altered animal rate. This can
include an official letter from your veterinarian or a receipt from the procedure.

Cat licences purchased this year by residents with cats owned prior to October 1, 2021 do not expire until
December 31, 2022. Early bird prices do not apply to existing cat owners who owned their pet prior to October
1, 2021. After December 2022, cat licences will need to be renewed annually and will be eligible for early bird
pricing.
