The Ponoka Stampeders are returning to Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) action this season.

Last season, the Stampeders had to withdraw from the league because the team did not have enough eligible players to meet the league’s COVID-19 measures.

Training camp for the team will run on August 26, 27, and 28 at the Ponoka Arena Complex.

The team is scheduled to play a 40-game regular season in the HJHL’s North Division. The Stampeders will open the season with a home game against the Red Deer Vipers on September 18.

The Okotoks Bisons won the Gerry Arnusch HJHL Championship last season over the Cochrane Generals in a three-game sweep in the finals.

In Ponoka’s last full season of play in 2019-20, the Stampeders finished the regular season with a record of nine wins, 27 losses, and two overtime/shootout losses. The team finished at the bottom of the North Division standings and missed the playoffs.
