When her son lost his battle to cancer, this Lacombe family knew exactly how to keep his memory alive.
Ty Hultink was a fun and outgoing, Lego loving boy according to his mother Deb Hultink. He lost his battle to cancer at the age of 15.
“We were just given 12 to 18 months so we knew that it would not end well, so he went through some chemo and radiation and stuff and there was just nothing else that they could do so we just tried to live our best life.”
He always wanted a specific set of Lego and while he was fighting his battle he received a toy donation from Child Life that made his life a little easier doing those hard months. It was the Lamborghini set that was a little hard to come by.
“Our social worker said I know exactly who that’s going to, and so Ty got that and that’s actually what it was stemmed from and just how much of a difference it made for Ty.”
At his funeral, instead of flowers they asked for toy donations in his memory because of his story with Child Life.
“We thought what a better way to give back so we asked people to donate Lego or something like that instead of flowers, and I don’t remember the numbers but it was an insane amount of Lego and gift cards and stuff like that so we delivered that to Child Life.”
Now every year they collect toy donations up until February 6th to donate to the foundation the next day on his birthday and they hope to continue this tradition every year.
If you would like to donate any toys to this cause there is more information in his mom’s facebook post here: https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10160842055218830&id=534993829
